Emma Wilson refelcts on Paris 2024!
By Emma Nicholson.
How does it feel to be a double Olympic medal winner?
Emma said: "Yeah it’s pretty cool, to win two Olympic medals in two different windsurfing classes, it’s not bad."
How are you feeling about the medal race now?
Emma said: "I don’t think I’ll ever forget the medal race, it’s going to hurt for a while. I made a mistake and it cost me. I guess the positives is that I made so few mistakes all week, I can be proud of that."
Once the dust settles would you consider another Olympic campaign?
Emma said: "Yeah I think so, I just need some time to rest and reflect. I didn’t really stop after Tokyo because I wanted to learn how to iqfoil. So this time I think I’ll take a bit more rest."
All the young people that you inspire who have watched your Olympic journey will be so looking forward to seeing you at the otc, how does it make you feel to be a role model to them and so incredibly inspiring?
Emma said: "Yeah it’s pretty surreal, because I still just feel like a little kid who likes windsurfing. It is really cool to be able to show people the sport and what happens if you work really hard and enjoy it."
What are your plans once you get back to the uk?
Emma said: "I need some rest!! Then probably get on the water on my wing, maybe some surfing, just go enjoy watersports!"
What was your favourite memory from the Olympics?
Emma said: "Probably winning the first race of the Olympics, everyone is always super nervous so to win the first race was pretty cool."
You have competed in two Olympics and made your dreams come true. What advice would you give to any young person who would like to take part in the Olympics one day?
Emma said: "Just if you really want to do it, you can, just work really hard and keep enjoying it. I think people start to lose the enjoyment as it gets more serious but I always said to myself if I’m not enjoying it why bother and stuck to that!"
Did you have a pinch me moment at the Olympics where you met a hero?
Emma said: "I think when I met keely straight after she won Olympic gold that was pretty cool."
You are a legend and have so much support from everyone in the uk, how does it feel to be a national treasure?
Emma said: "I mean I guess I still feel like the kid who loves windsurfing but for sure it’s cool to try and show people my story and hopefully inspire the next Emma Wilson."
