James said: “Windsurfing Kit set up. What a wonderful spectrum of options you have. What’s great about most modern kit is there is a lot of guidance on the board and sail to guide you where to put things for this and shift things for this. There is also a vast amount of “it depends”. Kit, conditions, water state, you, ability the list goes on! And then there is also a little bit about personal preference, how an individual like the sail to feel or the board to ride."

James said: "So it’s quite difficult to give hard and fast rules, but we can give guidelines so, footstrap position is very much led by the board and your ability, but the big thing to get right is size. A nice guide is the strap should be snug over the widest part of your foot. So if your little pinky toe is nicely visible then we are in the right ball park."

James said: "Mastfoot/UJ/Deckplate middle is a good starting block. Most boards have guides now along the mast track some even have mini mast tracks so actually means you can’t shift it to much. But middle tends to tick all the boxes. And then we adjust from there."
"Downhaul vs Outhaul, common mistake as not enough of one but too much of the other. I like to set my down haul properly so there is a healthy fall away at the leach and then play the outhaul as conditions turn on or lighten off.
"Having some belly in the sail is a good thing. The sail shouldn’t be folding over the boom but it’s not a big issue if it’s tapping the boom. Just please don’t over out haul your sail, otherwise you run the risk of having a rather frustrating time on the water. Well now you have the starting blocks, go out there, rig up and shred! “
