Isaac got into board repairs when he grew up around his dad's sailing yachts, Isaac said: “I was always put to work helping out on my dad's boats with mending and renovating jobs. When my dad and I learnt to windsurf, we continued to fix up our boards.
Isaac got into windsurfing with his family when he went on holidays to Tiree; he started windsurfing aged seven years old.
What are the benefits of getting a board repaired with Isaac? Isaac said: “I have an in-depth knowledge of the manufacturing processes and materials; experience in all types of repairs, assuring a strong long-lasting and great-looking repair, done quickly and professionally, using the best materials available.
“The most tricky board repair, so far, has been repairing an RSX at the 2016 World Championships overnight, after it had been impaled by a scaffolding pole. I completed the job and got the board racing the next day.”
Isaac has had a huge success with his own windsurfing, winning the 2018 RYA RS:X Youth National Championships. He said: “Winning the youth nationals was amazing; I was very happy with how I sailed throughout the event, enjoying every race. Also being selected to compete in the World Sailing World Champs in Texas that year meant so much to me.”
Isaac is still up there with the best, he said: “I still compete - I have just left RS:X to progress on the new exciting IQ Foil class. I love all forms of windsurfing, but if I had to pick one it would be my freestyle foil setup, which consists of a homemade converted kitesurf board (named Nigel!) and a Neil Pryde foil!
“My best windsurfing memory? The memories of hundreds of experiences, lessons and people I have met. Windsurfing for me is fun, mentally relaxing, and gives me so many amazing memories and great friends.
“Because of COVID-19 we have put in extra safety measures for customers due to the pandemic. I make sure I keep a safe distance from any customers, minimising personal collection and drop-offs of boards, and wiping down the boards before and after I do any work on them.
“The range of repair services I will be providing for OTC customers is anything from the very tip of the nose to tail. From deck re-grips, to hull repaints, fixture and fitting repairs or replacements such as fin/foil boxes, mast tracks or footstrap inserts ... and any cracks holes or damage on any surface of the client's board!
“It is best not to share the complete process, as this is extremely variable to the damage itself. But in general terms, I match materials spec for spec, using the strongest and lightest steps, carbon fibre and correct densities of foam - often using vacuum-bagging techniques to achieve flawless repairs. But a true magician never shares his tricks!
“I learnt to repair boards, from being self-taught and from obsession, over perfection and learning.
“You can't buy experience. My knowledge in processes and materials ensures the customer's board is in great hands to come back to them with a repair which will never bring future problems. A great looking, invisible repair that will help hold the value of the board if you come to sell it. Save money and save time.
“Windsurfing has very 'easy to assemble' equipment, and is a perfect sport during these uncertain times, as you can maintain your distance from others when on the water.
“The partnership between myself and the OTC leads to an excellent environment, providing efficient and quality repairs due to the newly-built workshop facility, merging both client bases and hitting the floor running with jobs.
“My future aspirations are to be the industry-leading and go-to man for anything in manufacturing and maintenance of all things boards and boat. With the main goal of helping people stay enjoying the water and professions.”
