One to watch! Picking up his first sailing silverware at the second round of the iQfoil Games. British Sailing Team windsurfer Duncan Monaghan secured his first senior medal in Cadiz Spain at the iQfoil Class Games last month. Achieving a silver in the under 23 category. A solid performance during a week of wind and waves, he is currently competing at the first Sailing Grand Slam event of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle, the Princess Sofia Trophy regatta taking place in Palma, Mallorca. In this week's blog I got the chance to speak to Young Gun; Duncan Monaghan! All of us at The Official Test Centre are cheering on Team GB at the iQfoil Games! You achieved a Silver medal in the U23 at the iQFOiL games in Cádiz! What a phenomenal achievement you must be so pleased? Your first senior medal!
Duncan said: "I am very pleased to kick off the season with a medal at the iq games! Conditions were tricky with big waves and strong winds, but my setup was good and I was feeling comfortable by the end of the week. The event was great training for the upcoming Trofeo Princesa Sofía Regatta in Palma."
How do you mentally prepare for your competitions?
Duncan said: "To mentally prepare for big events like this I try to adopt a winning mindset, take it race by race, and never give up."
What would you say to youngsters watching your success that would like to be like you? What advice would you give them?
Duncan said: "My advice to younger windsurfers in the pathway would just be to have fun, trust the process and train as hard as you can."
